Grimhold Series
What is the series Grimhold about?
Grimhold is a post-collapse fantasy series about a vast vertical city held together by patched magic, gang politics, exhausted healers, and stubborn hope.
When Lina, a young felinefolk girl from the lower districts, is taken in by a neutral back-alley clinic, she finds a family and a purpose. But as her magic grows, Grimhold itself begins to change. The forest beyond the walls is pressing in, the Academy is preparing mages for war, and the city’s gangs are being forced into something larger than survival.
From clinic rooms and crowded markets to battlefields, guild halls, ancient roots, and the lost truths of the world before the Collapse, Grimhold follows a city under pressure and the people trying to build something better before everything breaks.

Vol. 1: The Clinic
Lina has grown up in the lower levels of Grimhold, surrounded by the people and places that make up her world. Working alongside Henry, Kira and Penny at the clinic, she finds purpose in helping others and slowly begins to understand where she belongs.
But Grimhold is not as stable as it appears. Strange events, dangerous expeditions into the city's forgotten depths and signs of something much older beneath the streets begin to challenge what Lina thought she knew about her home. At the same time, something inside Lina is beginning to change. Her connection to the Weave is becoming impossible to ignore, and learning to control it may mean leaving behind the life she knows.
As Lina's world expands beyond the clinic, she must decide what she wants to become and how far she is willing to go to protect the people she cares about.
The Clinic is the beginning of Lina's journey into the magic, mysteries and conflicts that shape Grimhold.
Vol. 2: Tiered Trials
Agreed. I think the sweet spot is around 2 to 3 paragraphs, enough to establish what makes the book interesting without walking through the plot.
Grimhold Vol. 2: Tiered Trials
Lina leaves the clinic behind and enters the Academy, a place unlike anything she has known before. Here, magic is no longer something she has to discover on her own. It is studied, tested and shaped through a series of secretive trials designed to reveal what kind of mage each student could become.
Alongside a new group of students, Lina is pushed to her limits as she learns to control the power within her. The trials challenge far more than her ability to use magic, forcing her to confront fear, exhaustion, failure and the choices she makes when others are depending on her. As the students progress, Lina begins to discover that the Academy's lessons have a purpose beyond simply teaching them how to cast.
But while Lina is learning what it means to wield magic, Grimhold itself is beginning to change. The city is under growing pressure, the old boundaries surrounding the mages are starting to shift, and something beyond the city is beginning to push back.
Tiered Trials takes Lina from the familiar world of the clinic into the hidden world of Grimhold's mages, where mastering magic is only the beginning.
Vol. 3: Warborn Academy
The war has reached Grimhold, and Lina's time as a student is no longer separate from the world outside the Academy.
Returning to the city, Lina finds the places she knows changed by the conflict. The clinic is now part of a growing medical effort, the streets are increasingly shaped by military preparations, and the threat beyond Grimhold is becoming impossible to ignore.
As Lina continues developing her magic and takes on the role of a medic, she begins to discover that being a mage is about more than what she can do with the Weave. It is about what she chooses to do with that power when people are depending on her.
Meanwhile, strange developments within the Academy and growing questions about Grimhold's origins hint that the war may be only part of what is changing the city.
Warborn Academy marks the point where Lina's education becomes reality, as the magic she has spent years learning is finally put to the test.
Vol. 3.1: Breachwood
A squad is sent into the lower tiers of Grimhold to seal a breach where stone gives way to roots and spores. They are not heroes. They are soldiers, mages, and cutthroats, ordered to hold the line, carry the wounded, and survive long enough to get home.
Vol. 4: Craggyrock
The war has changed Grimhold, and Lina is no longer simply learning how to survive it. As a medic and combat mage, she is now being sent where the city needs her most.
When a new forest begins growing within Grimhold's walls, Lina and Shiv are given a dangerous assignment: investigate Craggyrock, a district transformed by the forest and now producing medicines, food and other resources that the war effort desperately needs. But the strange new growth may be more than an opportunity, and the people living among it have their own story to tell.
As Lina tries to understand what is happening, she is forced to confront the difficult choices created by war. How much can Grimhold take from the forest before it becomes dependent on it, and what happens when the thing keeping people alive may also be part of the threat?
Craggyrock expands the world beyond the immediate conflict, bringing Lina into a place where medicine, magic, nature and war are becoming impossible to separate.
Vol. 5: Where We Take Root
The war has carried Lina far from the Academy and deep into a conflict that is reshaping Grimhold itself. With the city under increasing pressure, the people fighting to protect it are being pushed to their limits, and the distinction between the battlefield and the lives they are trying to protect is beginning to disappear.
As Lina and the others face the growing threat beyond Grimhold's walls, the story of the forest and the Thornmarked becomes impossible to separate from the war. Old grievances, competing ideas of survival and the very different ways each side understands the world begin to collide.
Lina has spent the series learning how to use her abilities to protect people. Now she has to decide what that protection means when there may be no simple enemy, no easy victory and no way to preserve everything that came before.
Where We Take Root brings the war to the forefront of Lina's story, putting everything she has built, everyone she cares about, and the future of Grimhold itself to the test.
